There are 3 possible deadlines for filing the return and paying income tax. It is entirely up to you which one you choose:
| Return filing period | Tax payment deadline | |
| standard |
1.1. – 1.4.2025 |
1.4.2025 |
| standard extended |
2.4. – 2.5.2025 |
2.5.2025 |
| filed by a tax adviser |
3.5. – 1.7.2025 |
1.7.2025 |
With the right timing, you can defer your tax payment. The first two deadlines fall within the statutory period, and you can choose either freely. The latest deadline is a special case requiring a power of attorney for a tax adviser, who then files the return in their own name through their own data box. This tax payment “deferral” costs around CZK 5,000.
Tax advance payments
Filing timing affects not only the tax payment but also subsequent tax advances. Companies whose last known tax liability exceeded CZK 30,000 must pay advances. Depending on the amount, the company pays half-yearly or quarterly.
| Deadline | Last known tax liability | |
| half-yearly |
15.6. and 15.12. |
CZK 30,000–150,000 |
| quarterly |
15.3., 15.6., 15.9. and 15.12. |
over CZK 150,000 |
* if the date falls on a weekend, the due date moves to the next working day
For the first two standard tax payment deadlines, the first advance is due in June. With the latest deadline through a tax adviser, both the tax itself and the first advance are deferred: to 15.9. for quarterly advances or 15.12. for half-yearly advances.
| Tax payment deadline | First advance payment deadline | |
| standard |
1.4.2025 |
16.6.2025 |
| standard extended |
2.5.2025 |
16.6.2025 |
| filed by a tax adviser |
1.7.2025 |
15.9.2025 or 12.12.2025 |
For a company with tight cash flow and, for example, tax of CZK 140,000, paying CZK 5,000 for an extension may therefore seem worthwhile. It defers the CZK 140,000 tax payment from 2.5.2025 to 1.7.2025 and the first income tax advance from 16.6.2025 to 15.12.2025.
Conversely, a company wanting everything settled and out of the way can file and pay as early as February. Every company is different and suits different timing and due dates. So decide what works for you. 🙂
