Who has to pay?
The obligation to pay radio and television licence fees now applies to all companies and self-employed people that own any device connected to the outside world (radio, car radio, computer, mobile phone or tablet) and also:
- have 25 or more employees,
- rent out a car to third parties.
Who is exempt?
- employers who employ fewer than 25 employees and do not rent out a car,
- associations that do not rent out a car,
- employers who employ more than 50% people with disabilities and do not rent out a car.
How do you count employees?
-
only employees under standard employment contracts count
- watch out for part-time arrangements here:
- -> two half-time posts = 1 employee
-
the following do not count:
- workers on DPP/DPČ agreements,
- managing directors paid for performing their office,
- women on maternity leave or people on parental leave.
How will this work in practice?
Being exempt from payment does not mean you are done. By 30 June 2025, business owners and companies must report to Czech Radio and Czech Television the number of employees and vehicles rented out. This information can be sent either through a data box or through the online forms on the institutions’ websites.
The reporting obligation also applies to those exempt from the fee.
Who does not need to deal with the fees or register at all?
Anyone who owns no device connected to the outside world as part of their business does not need to register and is not affected by the fee at all.
