Sickness-insurance condition: self-employed people
What determines entitlement to maternity benefit (PPM) is whether you pay voluntary sickness insurance. As a self-employed person, you qualify for maternity benefit (PPM) only if you paid at least the minimum sickness-insurance contribution for at least 3 months before starting paternity leave.
The minimum sickness-insurance payment is CZK 216 a month (for 2024). The more you pay, the higher your paternity benefit. 😉
Submitting an application
As a self-employed person, submit your application for postnatal paternal care benefit through your data box to your district social-security office.
Business and paternity leave
The same rules apply during paternity leave as during maternity leave. You must not personally carry on your business while receiving the benefit. However, you may have employees working for you or run the business with the help of a cooperating person.
